Stages of Fire

Explosions often cause fires when the first big bang happens. Fires are one of the leading killers in the US. Although an explosion may hurt someone, it isn’t necessarily the reason that people die in different kinds of explosions. Fires have a process in which there are 5 stages that every fire goes through. In case you are ever involved in a fire, you will know what is going to happen as well as what to do to take care of yourself.

The first stage of a fire is the heating state. During this stage, some outside source adds heat to another material. The temperature increases at different rates depending on what the material is and how it was originally heated up.

The next stage of the fire process is the transition stage. This is the stage of the fire that the properties of the material being burned starts to change. This means that the physical, mechanical, and thermal properties. When this happens, the material may melt or vaporize depending on what the materials compounds are.

The third stage of the fire process is the degradation. In this stage, the thermal bonds break down due to the intensity of the heat. Depending on what the material is made out of will decide how fast or slow it will break down the properties.

The fourth stage of the fire process is decomposition. During this stage, the bonds tend to begin to break down the last of the bonds in the material. When the fire reaches this stage, it begins to release a gas that can become toxic to anyone that might breathe it in.

The last stage of the fire process is the oxidation phase. In this stage you tend to get the highest heat levels of all the stages. The gas that was released in the previous stage continues to overwhelm the area that is being burned. When this oxidation occurs, it produces carbon dioxide which takes over all of the area that is on fire.
