Flash Fire
If you have never been in a fire before, you might not know what to expect. If you have a safety plan mapped out then you will be taking that first step to be prepared. Many people have heard the term flash fire but are not exactly sure what this means.
A flash fire is an intense unanticipated fire almost like an explosion within a small area. A flash fire will often happen when a fire gets close to any type of flammable object. These flash fires usually happen when these flammable objects are around a certain amount of air which will eventually cause a combustible situation. The flammable objects could be anything from dust to liquid fuel on the ground. There are many different kinds of objects that could act as an ignition for a fire; it just depends on what the chemical make up is of the object.
When a flash fire happens, it causes what might be called shock waves that happen in the closed are that the fire is in. A flash fire is usually defined as having three things: high temperatures, short-duration, and a fast moving flame front with shock waves. Most of the time if you have a flash fire in a closed off area then open that area up; it will cause what seems like an explosion. Because this is such an intense fire, it will spread quickly once the small area is opened up and allowed to spread.
