What to Do if on Fire
The dangers of a plant explosion are many. You could be injured and even knocked unconscious by falling debris, inhale smoke and get carbon monoxide poisoning, and even be badly burned or catch on fire.
Stop
If you have been in an accident or explosion, the shock will probably have left you disoriented and confused. If a part of your body is caught on fire, it is important to not run around. This will not help extinguish the flames. Running around could actually fan the flames across your body.
Drop
Immediately drop to the ground or floor. Cover your eyes, nose, and mouth with your hands. This helps to protect your eyes and airway.
Roll
Roll over and then back in the opposite direction. This suppresses the fire by eliminating oxygen to the flames. The idea is to roll like a log. Keep your elbows tucked in and legs together.
Helping Someone Else
Should one of your coworkers be on fire, calmly give them the instructions for stop, drop, and roll. Use a blanket or cover the smother the flames.
If you or someone you know has suffered injury, illness, or death due to an explosion at a power plant, you need the support of an attorney who is knowledgeable of the law and is prepared to fight for your best interests.
